KRCD is currently working on four priority projects to improve the resiliency of water, power, and environmental resources for Valley residents. They are:
- Kings River Fisheries Project (environmental enhancement)
- Airborne Snow Surveys (water supply)
- Aquifer Storage and Recovery
- Pine Flat Hydropower: Unit 4
KINGS RIVER FISHERIES PROJECT
OVERVIEW: Funding for planning, design, and/or construction is needed to support upcoming projects that will help achieve the mission of the Kings River Fisheries Management Program. The Program’s mission is to improve and enhance the Kings River watershed and fishery habitat while maintaining its beneficial uses, recognizing that a healthy river is essential to the region’s well-being and future quality of life. AIRBORNE SNOW SURVEYS
OVERVIEW: The Kings River watershed in the Southern Sierra Nevada is where, on average, 1.7 million acre-feet of water supply for portions of Fresno, Kings, and Tulare counties is found stored as snow. The supply is extremely variable. In wet years it can exceed 4 million acre-feet, causing potential flood risk downstream, and can swing below 400,000 acre-feet in the driest years, straining groundwater supply used to meet demand. Water management begins with understanding and forecasting snowpack. LEARN MORE
AQUIFER STORAGE AND RECOVERY
OVERVIEW: Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) is a water management technique used to store excess surface/flood water in the aquifer for recovery during dry periods when water demand is high. Implementing ASR using agricultural wells is an innovative method that helps manage current and future groundwater use to achieve sustainability and support the resiliency of the Tulare Lake Subbasin in California’s Central Valley. PINE FLAT HYDROPOWER: UNIT 4
OVERVIEW: We are dedicated to improving reliability of the electrical grid in the Valley by adding local generation
capacity. The Jeff L. Taylor Pine Flat Power Plant has continued to provide a reliable carbon-free supply of energy since 1984, and with the addition of Unit 4 will provide a renewable supply of energy for California’s future growth. LEARN MORE
