Kings River Fisheries Management Program

Our agency takes its stewardship role for the Kings River region seriously– preserving the natural beauty, habitat, and quality of life for future generations. KRCD has, over many years, conducted numerous fishery and wildlife projects on the Kings River’s banks and in the watershed. Environmental issues underscore resource management and are of great importance to KRCD.

In May of 1999, KRCD, along with the Kings River Water Association and the California Department of Fish and Game, joined forces to create the Kings River Fisheries Management Program (KRFMP). Since its establishment, the KRFMP has developed an extensive planning, data collection, monitoring, and scientific analysis process that has led to numerous habitat improvements throughout the River. Annually, the KRFMP Incubator Facility releases approximately 300,000 rainbow trout fry with the hope that some will grow up wild. Along with supplemental trout stocking, the KRFMP also performs annual population surveys, educational tours, and monthly Kings River Trash Clean-Ups.
